This is a page to find out about my cars. I really enjoy working on them
and am always thinking of stuff to do to make them feel more personalized to my taste. So far, I've had two cars,
an '86 Oldsmobile Firenza LC Coupe(a.k.a. "Lil' Rocket"), and a '94 Nissan Altima GXE (a.k.a. "Mah Nu Cah" <-
figure it out ;)) Here, you'll find pictures, information, list of mods, updates and stuff like that.
So, how's the Altima? Well, the factory
deck had a few problems, it couldn't play CDs and it couldn't hold the volume you set it to. The factory speakers are decent Clarions. I have two 5x7's in the front doors, and two 6-3/4's in the back. For now, I use those for midbass and highs, and use two Infinity 12's for that deep bass. The new deck is too powerful for the factory speakers, and I'm hearing some rattling
noises coming from my 5x7's, so I may need a new pair, I will probably go with the Infinity's, but suggestions are welcome. It took me the whole summer of planning and construction (my dad and I built our own custom-fit boxes, and I did all of the wiring, and installation myself), but my system is finally working. Here is what the system includes as of right now:
-JVC KD SX980 CD/MP3 Deck: It's working just great, I love the way it makes even my factory speakers sound great. MP3 playback is without a hitch, and the CDs don't skip at all. The display looks like a christmas tree, it's got many different colors and is a pleasure to look at, especially at night. At 19W RMS X 4, it's loud enough for me and sets up a nice platform for future upgrades to my factory speakers. Price: $230 listed, but got it for $130 thanks to some family connections.
-Lanzar Vibe420 4-channel amplifier: has either 4x100W, or 2x200W output power(RMS), which gives me much flexibility. Nice little amp, has been working great so far. Price: $120
-Infinity Reference 1220w Subwoofer (2): 1200W Max handling, 92 db Sensitivity, 50-200 Recommended RMS. These subs pound with any beat and can handle all kinds of power. Their sensitivity makes them louder than any other subs in the price range that I've listened to. Price $100 each(I found a deal at 2 for $150 though, at sounddomain.com)
That's pretty much it for Audio mods. In the end, it cost me ~$500 to put it together. By system standards, that's not a lot, by my wallet it is. But, you're only a kid once ;)
As for the car itself, I plan to color-match the paint on the rear-right fender and the bumper (as of right now, it still shows signs of the bodywork done after the accident
three years ago).I've added little things to personalize it, such as Washer Nozzle LEDs (green), and I was thinking about a neon inside (blue,music-driven), but not sure about it yet
What about my Firenza? Well, "Lil' Rocket" has been very good to me over the past 5 years, but the time has come to say good-bye.
She's just too old, and I'm glad I listened to my parents and didn't put any more money into that car because my Altima is much better. Lil' Rocket was retired on May 18th, 2002, sent to "the Home" (Junkyard) to rust in pieces ;).
